Ma. Mercedes Berrocal
She is a Costa Rican sculptor currently based in Guatemala City. As an artist, she seeks to merge art and concept, inviting those who observe her pieces to embark on a journey of introspection, stirring inner emotions and daring to explore profound meanings, memories, and feelings. Her work encourages a slow and thoughtful gaze, with the certainty that each piece leads to unexpected paths.
From an early age, she showed an interest in all forms of artistic expression, participating in workshops on ceramics, painting, and classical ballet.
Due to her father's diplomatic career and her mother's artistic vocation, she had the opportunity to live in cultural capitals such as New York, Moscow, Barcelona, and Caracas, among others.
Living for extended periods in these cities, combined with her parents' deep appreciation for art and culture, nurtured her artistic vocation.
Her artistic explorations have included artistic photography, painting, resin sculpture, and metal embossing with aluminum and tin, forming a diverse and rich creative journey.
Es una escultora costarricense, radicada actualmente en Ciudad de Guatemala. Como artista busca amalgamar arte y concepto. Quién observe sus piezas se sumerge en un viaje por caminos de introspección, moviendo fibras internas, atreviéndose a transitar por significados trascendentes, recuerdos y sentimientos. Propone una mirada lenta y profunda sobre cada obra, con la certeza de que cada una te lleva a caminos inesperados.
Desde muy temprana edad le interesaron todas las manifestaciones artísticas, participando en talleres de cerámica, pintura y ballet clásico.
Por la carrera diplomática de su padre y la vocación artística de su madre, tuvo la oportunidad de vivir en capitales de la cultura como Nueva York, Moscú, Barcelona, Caracas, entre otras.
El vivir por largas temporadas en algunas de estas ciudades, unido al interés de sus padres por el arte y la cultura hicieron crecer en ella su vocación artística.
La fotografía artística, la pintura, la escultura en resina, el repujado en aluminio y estaño han sido parte de estos caminos explorados.
